Track 1. Erased (Intro)
Even knowing in advance, that I’ going to visit this gig, it felt like it all happened spontaneously. Perhaps because some of friends, who were supposed to go, skipped the show in the end, so the friends’ “lineup” differed from the original. Anyway, I didn’t plan to come early. After listening to an Israeli support act called Pray for Nothing on their myspace, I decided that I don’t want to watch a performance of a mediocre death/trash-metal project, so as not to spoil my impression of Paradise Lost and the event as a whole. After some beer near the entrance, we slowly walked inside the club to the performance of the British icons.
Track 2. One Second (The Club & The Audience)
Club Oman 17 in Israel is considered one of the most popular electronic mainstream clubs for mostly trance gigs. Usually there are events of progressive trance, psy-trance, drum and bass, house and other similar genres. But at least once a guitar band has already performed here (at that time I was upset that I didn’t get to Liquid Tension show). The location of the club turned out to be quite comfortable and close to all strategically important locations. I didn’t have to look for the club for a long time unlike Levontin 7 and Barzilai. Having entered the club, we fell in love with it in just one second. The stage is located in such way, that it can be seen from anywhere in the club without trying to push neighbors. The movable ceiling with multi-colored lighting and the light arrangement behind the stage was very impressive. Obvious, that it was decorated for trance shows, but skillfull organizers could manage to fit it into any show in any genres in a right way. I haven't been to the bar, so I can't comment on prices and service. But visually I liked the club more than others visited earlier in Israel. The audience for the metal concert of the old famous band was standard: metalheads of different ages and musical tastes, that could be easily recognized by their T-shirts. As I already said, we safely missed the warm-up. Paradise Lost started their show a bit later, than expected, but not for much...
Track 3. Paradise Lost (UK)
Along with Theater of Tragedy, Slayer, Immortal, Lake of Tears and Burzum Paradise Lost were one of the first bands I listened to when I first got into the metal scene. Therefore, I always had a special relationship with them, although I never considered them as my favorite band. The Paradise Lost tour marks the band's 20th anniversary, so as many others I expected to hear all the big hits from all the albums from their discography. the British musicians did not disappoint with the playlist selection. Аs I Die, Gothic, Erased, Enchantment, The Last Time, Say Just Words, One Second, best songs from the last album and other well-known compositions were obviously well accepted by the public and everyone was chanting along. The sound was a bit strange. I can’t say what exactly was wrong, but something was. I can't say either, that the sound was terrible, but it wasn't perfect either. The drummer, who joined the band not long time ago, didn’t fit the songs a couple of times. The show in general went well. It is worth separate mention the light show on a wall behind the band and in general in the club. Several narrow high strips of light from the floor to the high ceiling and between them a not wide, but not very narrow screen made amazing effects of flames, the outlines of unknown mystic creatures, the silhouettes of people and others interesting features. It looked great. As I have repeatedly said, the lighting design of the club was very impressive. During the performance, there were also some problems with the equipment, but the crew manage to fix it quickly. The band spoke with the crowd, which was nice in comparison with The Sisters of Mercy show some time ago. I have already been to the Paradise Lost concert in Kyiv at the Chaika festival once. I can say that the concert in Kyiv was better, despite the fact that on the show in Israel the playlist was much more for me, let say. The sound in Kyiv was much better. But emotions and light show made the evening.
Track 4. As I Die
The show was sold out, so there was not much space in the club. In general, I can say that the show was average closer to good mostly because of the playlist. And there was one more "but". The keyboard parts and the female vocals were pre-recorded. Me personally don’t think, it’s good especially for such a famous band as Paradise Lost. Even for 2 songs with female vocals that they have, they could find a vocalist or at least to pick one from Israeli local bands.
Track 5. The Last Time (Outro)
Paradise Lost ended their performance with The Last Time. Whether this was a subtle hint, that they don’t want to perform in Israel any more or something different, we will find out in the future.
