MX₂=>Stoichiometric Phase: TOP2025 of Debut Album
Young projects in the dark scene continue to appear and surprise with fresh view on genres that haven't changed for years. These new projects combine elements that seemed impossible to imagine in a single package, but they do so cohesive and interesting. The top 10 also features new projects by formed known musicians who have decided to explore completely different musical directions.
Covered genres: all dark scene genres

10. Schimmel Über Berlin “Eisenmund” (postpunk, gothic rock, darkwave | Germany, Static Age Musik)
The German band Schimmel Über Berlin consists of members of various Berlin postpunk projects from the late 10s and early 20s. Having come together, the trio of Christian, Lisa and Tilman recorded and released their debut album "Eisenmund" on the German label Static Age Musik. The Germans create an intriguing mix of gothic rock and postpunk, interspersed with darkwave aesthetics, female vocals and German-language lyrics. Sometimes it is rhythmic postpunk influenced by the icons of the genre, sometimes melodic gothic rock with classical echoes from 90s, and sometimes – atmospheric darkwave with Lisa's declaiming vocals. Nine tracks offer interesting cohesive material at its best. An excellent debut from the band, worth following, especially for fans of dark gothic music.
09. The Exile “A Lament” (deathrock, postpunk | USA, Self-Released)
The American trio The Exile formed in the early 2020s in Santa Ana. Their first EP was released in 2023 and could be considered a demo, although it was never officially stated. In 2025 the project actively toured the US, where they shared the stage with the aforementioned Sympathy Flowers, filmed a video and self-released their debut full-length album "A Lament". Lex, Lemon, and Rory create classic deathrock with a female-vocalized postpunk sound. The lyrics are primarily in English, but one Spanish track, reworked from the 2023 demo, fits perfectly on the album. This is powerful material from another new name in the US gothic guitar scene.
08. Camp de Terrain “Camp de Terrain” (electroclash, EBM | Netherlands, A Francey Thing)
The Dutch project Camp de Terrain appeared on the synthetic electronics scene in 2025. While they may have formed earlier, their first recordings and activities began in 2025. After releasing several singles and an EP the Dutch band released their debut full-length album "Camp de Terrain". The album features 10 tracks of rhythmic mind-blowing electroclash with female vocals and lyrics primarily in French, but the Dutch track featuring guest vocalist Phra Dakona sounds particularly powerful. The light EBM rhythm of the track featuring guest vocalist Scouter adds a touch of grit, while occasional guitar sounds add dimension and variety. A truly impressive work by the Dutchs. Following the album's release, the band also opened for the Belgian band Vive La Fête!, which further demonstrates the project's level and genre focus. Good classic electroclash is a rare thing in the modern synth scene. Camp de Terrain reminded us what true electroclash is.
07. La Sombra De Shalom “Restos” (deathrock, darkwave | Mexico, Self-Released)
La Sombra De Shalom formed in 2016 in Mexico and released a five-track postpunk demo for free download the same year. This demo was largely overlooked and was rather raw in terms of both the material, sound and arrangements. In 2025 the Mexicans released their debut full-length album "Restos", which included songs from the demo, but refined, reimagined and ready to showe it to the music dark scene. The result is a rather atmospheric blend of deathrock and postpunk with lyrics in Spanish and male vocals. The album's production is somewhat dirty and fuzzy, which works to the project's advantage, emphasizing its unique and unconventional approach. A very good debut from La Sombra De Shalom, of whom I believe, we'll hear more in future.
06. O Lethe “Frozen Star” (dreampop, trip hop, ambient | Sweden, Self-Released)
The first compositions of the Swedish project O Lethe appeared on their Bandcamp page in 2024. During its history the Swedish project has released several singles and 3 EPs. The debut full-length work entitled "Frozen Star" was released in February 2025 for free download on their Bandcamp page. The album features 12 atmospheric compositions, where elements of trip-hop and ambient are twisted into the main style of dreampop. Ethereal female vocals with English lyrics nicely implemented in such gentle soft music. A very good debut of a young project, that should be followed by fans of atmospheric dreampop with variations.
05. Armadura Del Durmiente “Por La Belleza Del Acto” (dark folk, neofolk, martial industrial, dark ambient | Spain, Hidden Crypt Records)
The young Spanish project Armadura Del Durmiente was founded by Esteban in the early 20s and its debut full-length album "Por La Belleza Del Acto" was released in 2025. A fascinating blend of dark folk and neofolk with elements of chanson, Spanish-language lyrics and industrial percussion create a unique atmosphere that combines dark mysticism, romantic etherealism and medieval motifs. For the album Esteban invited vocalist Ruth, with whom he previously collaborated on a 2022 album as part of her project Mann of Seasons, Cela, the frontwoman behind Reserva Espiritual De Occidente, and vocalist Juan José. Considering that Esteban himself performed the vocals, the album features alternating female and male vocals, which adds a great variety to such projects. The industrial opuses in the second half elevate this work to one of the best of 2025 not only in the neofolk scene, but also in industrial music. A very powerful debut.
04. The Discussion “All the Pretty Flowers” (coldwave, dreampop, postpunk, synth-goth | USA, Artoffact Records)
The Discussion is a relatively new name on the dark scene map. The project was founded by the American Laura, known for her work in the prog-rock/sludge metal band Kylesa. In fact, Lora is the only participant in The Discussion and she gathers a group of session musicians for the shows. As part of The Discussion, the American moved away from the rock and metal scene in the direction of combining the electronic genres of gothic music with the guitar aesthetics of postpunk. The debut album "All the Pretty Flowers" was released on the well-known label Artoffact Records and consists of 10 songs based on postpunk and coldwave with elements of the synth-goth and dreampop genres. Good female vocals and not an experimentally cold sound make the debut of the American very successful and high-quality. Now we are waiting for the continuation, because, taking into coinsideration her other projects, among which there is hardcore, doom metal and various other metal genres, the development can be very unpredictable.
03. noise on grey “negative pressure” (electro-industrial, oldschool dark electro, industrial darkwave | USA, Self-Released)
noise on grey is the solo project of American musician Aerik Burton. The musician spent years playing in various local metal and prog bands, mostly as a bassist. After feeling stagnant with his main metal project Verdant Grey, the American got keyboards and began experimenting with electronic post-industrial music, which resulted in noise on grey. The electronic music is influenced by Trent Reznor's Nine Inch Nails and How to Destroy Angels, as well as classic synth and post-industrial music. "negative pressure" is noise on grey's debut album and features 10 atmospheric compositions that combine mid-tempo brooding electro-industrial with oldschool dark electro and the aesthetics of industrial darkwave with slightly processed male vocals. It's really interesting and strong material, somewhat reminding a more industrial version of Seabound. Very impressive music and the best post-industrial album of 2025.
02. Deadcode “Nothing and Nowhere” (synth-rock, alternative rock | USA, Self-Released)
The duo of Steven and Stephen began promoting their music in 2020, releasing singles and remixes, and in 2025 their debut album "Nothing and Nowhere" was out. Deadcode combines a rock sound with an abundance of electronic music from various genres, including synthpop, electro and breakbeat. The influence of the alternative rock scene is clearly noticeable, so the music of the Americans goes beyond the dark scene and will be interesting for both synth-rock lovers and fans of alternative guitar music. Some compositions on the album sound without guitars, exclusively in the electronic key of dance synths, which fits perfectly with the overall atmosphere of the album. While parallels with Linkin Park are easy to draw, Deadcode has a distinctive sound that makes the project instantly recognizable. An excellent debut work from the Americans. I hope the project does not deviate into a more rock sound over time, although they will most likely create excellent material there too.
01. Songe “Daughters” (drone ambient, dark ambient, neoclassics, ethereal, noise | UK, Cruel Nature Records)
Phoebe and Ëlle formed the project Songe in 2023 and in 2024 they released their first demo recordings. In 2025 their debut full-length "Daughters" was out. The British duo create a intricate drone ambiet with elements of industrial, ethereal, noise effects and piano opuses with airy vocals. A very strong album with an unconventional approach to the material, spiced with sound experimentation and a unique atmosphere of mysticism and ritual underlying concept, echoing the early work of the American project Lingua Ignota, only with more blurred genre boundaries and its own sound and atmosphere. A deeply emotional and powerful work from the British duo. An excellent album, that has become one of the most resounding discoveries of the year.
